Hunting horn!

I had this rather ugly fairly straight horn that I didnt know what to do with until I read THE HUNTING HORN page in Madison Grants book POWDER HORNS AND THEIR ARCHITECTURE...heres what I have so far...probably not going to do to much more to it other than some finish work on mouthpiece and add a leather strap

How does your horn sound Van ? I have a few hunting horns or sometimes they are called dog horn's that I have picked up at flea markets and antique stores around home. They each have a unique sound depending on the structure of the horn. I have one that has a bugle or trumpet mouth piece installed on it. Here in West Virginia the Fox, Coon and Bear hunters still use them to call their dogs. Thanks for showing your work.....

It has a somewhat deep sound comparable to the drop not of a donkey! I played trumpet in highschool so was able to get a good clear note on the first blow...its quite funny, and somewhat painful, watching my boys try!

Not a bad horn; just plain.  I had a nice one with a reed mouthpiece that I picked up somewhere year ago.  The sound traveled very well.  I turned it into a powder horn (very crude) but also kept the mouthpiece.

Sounds the same...easier to get the sound...i shaped/sized the mouthpiece more like a French horn(the brass instrument) mouthpiece
