Powder for smoothbore and shotgun
« on: March 14, 2021, 01:43:56 AM »
I use Swiss 3fg and 2fg in my guns. My largest caliber rifle is .54 cal and it shoots very well with 2fg.  I have a double barrel 12 gauge Pedersoli shotgun choked mod & full that I also shoot 2fg Swiss in (85gr and 1 1/4 once’s of shot).  I’m wondering if 1fg or 1.5fg GOEX/Old Enysford might be a better choice since they are not as hot as Swiss powder.  I’m going to be getting a smoothbore again soon as I haven’t had on for some time and everybody NEEDS a smoothbore.  I’m thinking the 1 or 1.5fg GOEX/OE might work better in that as well.  Any thoughts based on direct experience out there?

Exactly- it depends on how it patterns and then, what variations you can make in wads, powder charge and shot load.
Your gun will be the deciding factor, that is, if you let it.

Have to try it all and let the gun show you what it likes.  2-f Goex works great in my 20 gauge trade gun or the 12 gauge double barrel.  Some of my 54 caliber rifles prefer 2-f and others prefer 3-F.
I have a friend who loads 3-f in everything.  Even his Pedersoli 12 gauge double shoots it well.  I havent tried 1-f in anything, just very satisifed with the results from 2 or 3-f Goex.
