A Little Different Horn
« on: March 17, 2021, 04:18:40 PM »
Rather long but slender horn, it is right at 16" around the outside curve and about 13 1/2 tip-to-tip. The horn body itself is only 10" so the rest is tip and butt. The 2 3/8ths butt is Apple wood tapped 1/2-8, it is held by 3 iron pins, 3 more hold the band in place. The finial is Walnut, threaded for the butt.
The tip is horn, it is 3 1/2" long and tapped 5/8-11 to screw onto the horn. I may end up pinning it not sure we need a screw in finial and tip. Color is a light Brown dye, the horn was boiled in it, then coated with Brown shoe polish and buffed.

Very nice Tim. Looks great I really like the base plug very unique.  I have a similar horn in my shop I was going to try my hand at one of them curled horn snuff containers. But don’t know.

Cool.  I've never seen a base like that.   Nice work and overall color.

That is definitely interesting.   What made you think of that base plug design?

The more I look at it, the more I like it.  It definitely has a contemporary art vibe to it.

Some horns speak to you some don't. This defiantly does, i love everything about it. Thank you for posting it.

Not sure where that design came from, just something that came to me. There are variations to come I'm sure.

I like it it’s very different from most of the stuff I see, and it looks good too. Nice work as always.

It takes the right man to make a good looking powderhorn out of a horn of that length and shape.  You're that man.  Very cool horn Tim.  Neat base plug carving.   God Bless,  Marc
