Sow's ear

Asked to make a rifle for a young man and finished it up. The wood I used wasn't the best, but it wasn't the worst. I added some sparkle to it just to dress it up. It's a 45, new old stock Douglas 7/8th's straight barrel. Ptchbox is made by me after an original that I have. I pretty much followed the engraving that is present on the original, but I added a few things that I believe was on the box, but has become very hard to see due to age, time and rubbing.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

As much as I like Colonial flintlocks, there is something that draws me to the 19th century style percussion rifles.
Like it a lot!

Looks good John, all that practice engraving on those old Brass key locks really paid off. Well done.

I like the little bit of engraving you did on the hammer, it gives the lock a nice bit of class without it looking too busy.
