Nice job on the fit of your metal parts to the stock. The butt cap appears to have some gap to the wood but that could just be shadows.  When I was fitting my English Pistol butt cap (much simpler than your stirrups with only one large extension at the rear of the cap) I carefully took off wood from the "hump" of wood at the bottom by use of inletting black which moved the cap up until the gaps disappeared. I'll send you some pics of the stain and finish I used on my pistol   just to give you some ideas.   Bill

Thanks guys.
I have actually removed that belt hook since that pic was taken.
I'm going to replace it with this one.
I'm currently shaping and sanding it some before it gets polished.

Hey guys, I thought I would tack this on in my pistol build thread.
Last weekend my girl took her kids and went to stay a couple of days in Asheville NC.
While she was there they went shopping around like tourists do. She was browsing around in some antique store and sent me a pic of a horn.
She asked if I wanted it. I said "pass. save your money". I wasn't really interested.
But, of course they way my baby is she bought it anyway.
So you know I had to change my tune once I saw it.
It's not old or anything I don't think but, it has some cool, primitive carving on it.
After wiping some inlet black on it and sanding and polishing it down I thought it looked pretty cool.
I made a butt cap and a stopper for it out of my scrap bin but after messing around with it I decided I wasn't happy with them.
So I pulled them out and I am making another cap and stopper set for it.
The stopper is just about finished. I carried the design from the horn to the stopper.
I had another nice piece of walnut in my scrap bin so I cut a couple of circles and joined and glued them up.
I used the nice curly piece for the top and a piece that was more straight grain for the base.
The one tool I don't have is a wood lathe. I have almost bought one many times but alas...
I'm going to take it to a friends shop sometime soon and turn it down with a nice dome on top.
Stay tuned for pics of that.
Anyway, here's what I have so far.  :D

Shots Fired ?
I got a few blank loads fired off.
Not super reliable I would say.
Not a big shower of sparks. I tried cleaning the frizzen with alcohol.
It worked maybe 5 times out of 40+ trigger pulls.
Are there any tricks or things that I can look at to make this more reliable?  ;D

You could try flipping the flint so the bevel is opposite (been up/bevel down).

macr0w - it appears you still have that tiny vent hole.  With a plain drilled vent - no liner, the went hole will likely need to be larger.
I would suggest at least .070" & I think 1/10" would not be out of line.

Yeah, the hole is tiny.
I wondered about that but, I'm in-experienced with these things so I don't know any better.  :)

Okay guys, I'm really done this time.
I took this thing apart and did a little more carving around my lock and side plate.
I defined a few lines a little better.
I filed my pins down a little bit for a better fit.
I slightly beveled my side plate on the rear point to match my lock plate.
I reset my butt cap and re-drilled the pin that holds the retainer for a tighter fit.
I thoroughly cleaned the barrel and all the other metal parts.
Then I sanded and refinished the stock again.
This is how it will look for the foreseeable future.
Put a fork in it.  :P
