Hey guys, I thought I would tack this on in my pistol build thread.
Last weekend my girl took her kids and went to stay a couple of days in Asheville NC.
While she was there they went shopping around like tourists do. She was browsing around in some antique store and sent me a pic of a horn.
She asked if I wanted it. I said "pass. save your money". I wasn't really interested.
But, of course they way my baby is she bought it anyway.
So you know I had to change my tune once I saw it.
It's not old or anything I don't think but, it has some cool, primitive carving on it.
After wiping some inlet black on it and sanding and polishing it down I thought it looked pretty cool.
I made a butt cap and a stopper for it out of my scrap bin but after messing around with it I decided I wasn't happy with them.
So I pulled them out and I am making another cap and stopper set for it.
The stopper is just about finished. I carried the design from the horn to the stopper.
I had another nice piece of walnut in my scrap bin so I cut a couple of circles and joined and glued them up.
I used the nice curly piece for the top and a piece that was more straight grain for the base.
The one tool I don't have is a wood lathe. I have almost bought one many times but alas...
I'm going to take it to a friends shop sometime soon and turn it down with a nice dome on top.
Stay tuned for pics of that.
Anyway, here's what I have so far.
