I have shot some smooth bore matches in the NMLRA Territorial matches and they used some animal targets as well as a fairly large single bull at 100 yds.

They used to use an elk target that had a standard 8 ring black 100 yard target in the elk. Haffner running deer and the standing ground hog at 25 yards, and the French 200 yard musket target at 100 yards, if memory serves me. I checked the NMLRA store and they no longer carry the Elk target.

They have several different matches and targets for smoothbores.

Monday & Tuesday following the opening weekend are prime smoothbore days on the primitive range...

I've got a few smoothbore options here, I've put the 50 yard matches in bold

Aggregate Y - 5 shots—smoothbore—no rear sight above the plane of the barrel—no set triggers—54 caliber minimum—flintlock only.
Match 105 25 yards, standing groundhog target
Match 106 25 yards, running deer target.
Match 107 50 yards, elk target
Match 108 100 yards, 200-meter French target.

Aggregate JJ - Sighted Smoothbore Aggregate
Smoothbore must be checked and tagged. 5 shots—offhand—flintlock or percussion—fixed open sights (front and rear)—no limitations on caliber.

Match 34 25 yards, 6-bull target (7-ring).
Match 35 25 yards, 6-bull slug gun target.
Match 36 50 yards, 100-yard target (7-ring).
Match 37 100 yards, 200-meter French target.

International Weekly Medal Reentry
Match 120
International smoothbore flintlock musket or trade gun. Muskets can be of any nation; both muskets and trade guns must be at least .54 caliber, no rear sights, can be original or reproduction. 50 yards offhand, roundball, no set triggers, 200-meter French target. Trade guns that are suitable for the Northwest trade gun match and of .54 caliber are suitable for this match.

Match 121
International Free Rifle. Flintlock or percussion, 50 yards, standing offhand or free rifle position, B-19 target, roundball or bullet, any metallic sights.

Back in the ‘80’s .....our club shoot ,would hang these targets at 100 yards for rifled Black powder guys. That black circle is 12 inches . Would this target be used at 50 yards for us Smoothbore guys ? Or something with a smaller black area ? Thanks

That is the NMLRA target that we used for 50 yard smoothbore matches.
For fun, we often had a Mike Fink target at 25 yards

Bob and others. Does that measure 80mm/3.15" for 10 ring and 400mm/15.75" total black?

The 10 ring = 4 inches

The whole black circle = 12 inches

And I don’t know the metric system...lol

4 x 2.54 = 10.16 cm

12 x 2.54 = 30.48 cm

Ah, thanks Ness. I don't know why, I thought it was the same as the French C200 target which dimensions I have listed. Wasn't easy to find those numbers.
