Unique Ambrose Lawing Flintlock Rifle
« on: April 13, 2021, 09:24:59 PM »
Another Ambrose Lawing.  It has a 45 3/4 inch octagonal swamped .33 caliber rifled barrel. The flintlock ignition is original. It has a full tiger stripe maple stock with numerous brass & silver inlays. There is a flowing vine-leaf motif hand-carved on either side of the forestock between the lock area and the rear ramrod entry ferule. Additionally, there is a geometric carving on the rear butt stock area including a classic hex symbol at the rear of the high relief Germanic type cheek rest. The front sight is silver blade type; the rear is semi-buckhorn. It has a single trigger and its original hickory ramrod. The round tail plate and the trigger guard are hand forged steel and is stamped on the barrel: AMBROSE LAWING / WARRENTED.

Very cool rifle. Does it surprise that he was making flintlock longrifles?  Is this him? Born 1826?  He’d be 17 in 1843. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/100250872/ambrose-lawing
