Don Getz inspired barn gun ***Finished***
« on: April 09, 2021, 03:54:08 PM »
Hello everyone. Getting to the later stages of my current project. It is a left handed barn gun inspired by Don Getz's barn gun featured on the Contemporary Makers Blog.  .45 caliber Getz barrel.

Yes and he always enjoyed the ALR "show and tell" meetings we had at the bottom of the stairs going to the fast food bars at the CLA show. Don was always bringing something interesting. I especially enjoyed seeing the "sporran" one of his Scottish ancestors wore. Also the shot bag with the Fox Head flap that also was in his family.

Don always had time to talk builds with me. Don was finishing up a barn gun for me when he passed. Unfortunately I never received it. Couldn’t get any responses when trying to contact about it. It was in the finishing stages complete with the length of pull I wanted. Jerry Rice

If I might make a suggestion on the front portion of the box lid?
I would feather, that is shape it down a bit, closer to the box lid on the Edward Marshal rifle Smart Dog is building.
Not much different, but enough to remove the slightly 'bold' appearance. Maybe it's just me.

Lookin Good Corey!!  I always loved Don's barn guns.  Simple, yet very elegant.  I think he would be extremely proud and appreciative that you are honoring him with your build.

Cory Joe

I really like that "implied buttplate" carving, makes a nice feature.

Corey Joe, it looks really nice!  And you can go to good hobby shops, and get some brass paint for models, paint that beautiful carving job, and it will REALLY look "implied"!  LOL.

Don't change a thing - you have a beautiful rifle there.  And I know you made it left-handed so none of us will try to borrow it for a weekend.

Cory, I do like that implied butt plate look. It kinda sets it off and gives a plain old Poor Boy a little class.
Kind Regards
