Banded horn
« on: April 19, 2021, 01:14:32 AM »
Finished up this nice little banded horn today.  It’s 12 1/2 inches along the outside curve. The maple base plug is hollowed out and has a diameter of 2 1/2 inches. The spout is turned from antler. It feels good carrying either side, but I think it is better on the right side.

Very nice Ed. Glad to see you've gotten back into it. Have one of your early flat horns and still love it.

If a man owned one horn, he could do a whole lot worse than that one.  Nicely done indeed.   God Bless,   Marc

Thank you.  It feels good to be back in the shop after having to be out of it for a few weeks.

I love making banded horns. They are my favorite along with Tansel style horns. I guess it’s because they fit the time period I am interested in 1790-1840. When the fur trade started picking up and the move westward.
