SMR Patchbox
« on: April 23, 2021, 12:44:10 AM »
Thanks everyone for the help.

The top picture is off Jim Kibler's website.  I used it for a guide make mine.   I made may latch from a large allen wrench that came with something long ago.  It is good steel and heat treated to a spring elasticity.  The metal is from the hardware store.  The fake old finish is cut and try with the stuff around the shop.

Thanks,

Driving a giant nail into a $1200 rifle was uncomfortable.  I did it three times on scrap wood to be shure I'd get the step drilled hole right.  I don't think it is my favorite release.  It is right for this rifle though.

Next time I think I'll try another approach.  Below is a view under the butplate.

I make mine from a cut nail with high carbon content.  I bend the nail into an L shape that allows me to screw it down to the bottom of the box.  This gives a longer spring arm and you can do some adjusting

kind regards, heinz
