Latest build completed
« on: November 29, 2022, 04:35:50 PM »
I've just finished another, this rifle was built from a blank and was inspired by some earlier guns, I've always enjoyed the chunky early guns and I am partial to the Lancaster style, so there is my inspiration. The barrel is a 50 caliber swamped barrel at 42 inches, wood is a grade 2 curly maple, lock is an L&R large siler (tuned),trigger weighs in at just over 1.5 pounds

More pictures would be nice. I would like to see the carving around the tang. Also, the carving behind the cheek piece I would like to see after finishing.  It is very nice

Looks crisp and clean. Curious though, what is an L&R large Siler? Is it an L&R that looks like a Siler or a Siler made by L&R?  :-\

Beautifully appealing! The colors, lines, carving and engraving, wow.
Was that the style to have a straighter barrel tang rather than one sloped a bit downward to flow into the wrist more gently?

Thank you very much! I greatly appreciate it, and yes my general style of gun that I produce has a chunky cheek peice,  about a half inch of off cast, and very subtle wrist slope. I personally like the feel of it and when paired with moderate to low profile sights the rifle is essentially on target when shouldered with a check weld. Of course, this isn't the only way to achieve this and many builders have drastically different styles but this one just appeals to me.

Thank you! I used aqua Fortis, honey amber trans tint, and tried and true varnish oil

Some up close and personals, as requested. The rifle still isn't 100% finished and needs a few more coats of oil and wax
