PETER BRONG "CP" MUSKET
« on: April 25, 2021, 04:07:53 PM »
For those who are fans of Peter Brong, see Poulin's May 21-24 auction Lot #333, Regimentally marked 1797 Contract Charleville Pattern Musket for Pennsylvania.

Reference Spring 2005 Bulletin #91 article/presentation by David Stewart and Bill Reid to the ASAC on PA. contract muskets.

Interesting. I thought most of those retained the brass pan of the 1777 Charleville and US counterparts.

These 1797 Pa Contract Muskets were patterned after the French Model 1766 Flintlock Musket, the same pattern was used for the Springfield Charleville Pattern aka the Model 1795. See photo below from my book.

BTW, Peter Brong 1797 PA Contract muskets are so rare that when Norm Flayderman's Guide to American firearms was first published in 1977, he did not give a value for them as none had been identified by 1977.

I again refer the reader to Stewart & Reid's 2005 ASAC paper available on line at the ASAC web-site.

Here it is.

That worked. Now I see why I couldn't find it, in your OP you had it listed as "Lot #333" it shows up as "Lot #3330".

  Thanks, Tim

Sorry about my typo Tim. I must have gotten too excited about the musket!  :)
