Never take for granted how fortunate you all are to be able to attend events such as this.  I might as well be from another planet living out here in the northern half of BC.

If it wasn't for the www and especially this site, I might as well be from Uranus, or some other $#!++y planet.  I've made a pilgrimage to longrifle land twice, and intend to attend the CLA show at least once before I vapour lock, but it won't be until we get a handle on the virus and things return to some semblance of normal.  In the meantime, we must endeavor to persevere.

I saw those, but was after other fish. I stayed in the game and was high bidder on all that I was after. Small auction house, but has good standing it would seem and this was a really good auction. There were several nice iron guns and I admit to chasing one but dropped out at $1600. Didn't want to water down my budget too much. When the ship arrives with my purchases I will post photos. I already owe a bunch, but am finally looking at getting an I Phone with a decent camera and can do my own photoing. Anyone else bidding there today?

The original flint Bearden rifle, Greene Cornett short walnut full-stocked rifle made in Perry Co., Kentucky, [the "European percussion rifle"], and "budget" percussion iron mounted rifle with pewter nose cap are all heading back to Indiana. And Mr. No Gold, maybe you should dump that M. Sells and get more into Tennessee stuff.

;) ;)... Shelby,....I didn't know how to use the "On Line" bidding process, or I would have gotten the Bearden rifle and brought back to Tennessee,.... my home here is only 30 miles from the old homeplace & shop in Lincoln Co,... I need to learn the process for buying at "on-line" auctions,... the hog rifles sold REALLY cheap,... post some more pix when you can,...... Regards,... CCF

I dunno Shelby. I like a fancy gun and the Sell is a tad more gussied up than most TN guns. I think it may remain standing in the corner a while longer. If things change I'll holler. I do like the NC guns. They have class and the one I picked up was the Crider shop, NC gun and also the Moll. Glad that you were able to get those 'European' plain guns. This was a WN state collection and still scratching my head over how it found its way uo NY. Nonetheless, Miller had a good eye and he had a lot of things. Sounds like we all had a good day!

Dick,  I really liked the Crider-related rifle, lots of similar details, and thought it might be a Crider. It had great details in the molding lines that hint at what we see on Lexington rifles, but it went higher than I wanted to go. I've seen the Crider published in Johnston's Ky Rifles & Pistols 1750-1850, but have never seen anything or read anything more on Crider or where he worked. Several months  back I posted a rifle that had a KY look to it, but I thought it was NC as it had the incised comb lines and similar "daisy" head on the finial, which is flatter than the PA daisy. Seems there may be a missing North Carolina school out there that these rifles come from. What do you know about Crider and this new, related rifle?

For us,we live 2 hours away from the CLA Show in Lexington Ky and that is a very nice city
and easy to get around in.I am hoping to be there this years. Our last one was in 2019 and
the remodeling of the facility and Covid stopped it for 2020.I am wondering why there is no
CLA show in the Western USA.Maybe politics?
The shoot at Friendship is another easy one to reach for us and is 3 hours away and a nice drive
on the Double "A"highway across Northern Kentucky. It ain't what it once was but the what IS??

We have the Colorado Gun Collectors Show in Denver every year. Jack Brooks lives near hear and often attends. One year he was dressed in 18th century clothes and he set up and stocked a barrel from a blank. I have seen some nice long rifles there including a collection of original Tennessee rifles one I remember was a Baxter Bean. Being  out west which was settled much later there's more of an interest in the 1870's buffalo hunting era. No show in 2020 because of Covid and the 2021 show has moved the date to this fall and the location to Colorado Springs.

CCF, sorry that things didn't work out for you on the auction! If I want to bid, I phone the auction house a week or several days before and request to phone bid. On auction day they will call you up a few items prior to the one you are chasing and then you are online to bid. A pre bid doesn't do it for me. I like to get in on the action. Hope it works for you next time.
Shelby, I wish I knew something about the NC, Crider crowd, but all I know I learned from Michael Briggs, which was just enough to know what one ought to look like. He has a nice signed Crider in his Rowan County book. It may even be the same one shown in the KRA book you mentioned. I'll know more when it arrives and hopefully have more to say. They seem to be somewhat rare if he could scare up only one to two for his book. The NC group in my collection isn't large. I have a Jamestown gun, A T. Vogler plain rifle and the G. Yost dated April, 1819 shown in Bill Ivey's NC book and in Michael Briggs' Rowan County rifles. The number will climb to four now. Glad that you were successful on the bidding for the Mt rifles. They all were quite nice it appeared. More later.
Dick
