Twist on a Beaver Flap Style Hunting Pouch
« on: May 05, 2021, 07:39:01 AM »
Here is a remake/redo of my first pouch with what I think are some major improvements from where I first started (https://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?topic=58044.msg580574#msg580574)!
A 4-5 oz cow leather bag with a beaver tail from a beaver that I trapped and tanned, a bit of dye and my usual, conditioned with bear lard and bees wax.  Thanks again to all that provide their insight and knowledge here on the forum....makes this a very pleasurable craft!

Normally I'm not one for fringe but in this case I think it's subtle enough to enhance the overall look of the bag. I've never seen one that incorporated a beaver tail either, good job!

Nice looking pouch. I'm not big on fringe either but as previously mentioned it works on this bad. :)

Very nice...I love the texture contrast the beaver tail brings!  Great looking bag!

Nice looking.  I like the texture on the flap.  Really comes together to make a nice looking bag.

Great looking bag. I'm not big on fringe like old George but it fits this bag well. Nice work.

Thanks all, yeah, not a real huge fan of fringe either, but the beaver tail, 'mountain man' look and a little fringe seemed alright together, as long as I kept from the longer Fess Parker Davy Crockett /Daniel Boone look it ended up complimenting the bag as a whole well.

I really like that bag. You did a great job with the fringe and I really like the beaver tail inlay. I think your right on with the short fringe, longer fringe would have been to much . the shorter set's it all off. I hope with a lot of practice some day i'll be able to achieve a piece like this.
