Bag and original horn
« on: May 26, 2021, 01:57:08 AM »
The bag and sheath is bark tan. The horn is an antique. The pinking iron used to stamp the leather is an antique tool as well.

Nice looking bag Dan. I like it. Is there a classy worm/puller inside?  🙂 God bless, Marc

Nice package.  Why is the horn below the pouch?

That's a very nice bag, I really like the trim work on the flap and the knife sheath. Thanks for showing it to us.  Could you show a picture of the pinking iron you used ?

Thanks fellas for the nice words. I do most of my sewing at a friends harness shop in Roscoe Village Ohio. He is a Williamsburg trained leather worker, and uses old tools. He owns the iron, so Ill try and get a photo from him. If you look at Dillon's book, the majority of original Pa bags had the horn below the flap. It is easier to get in the bag that way. I guess style is trumped by usability..

My buddy has his horn low like that.  Must try that sometime.

Beautiful set, Dan...very nice work!  If you check around on eBay, antique pinking irons and such tools show up now and then.

That's a nice looking rig for sure.
I prefer to carry my horn above the bag.  That way, it lays as closely as possible against my body, easily held down with my arm.  A horn resting on the bag sticks out unnecessarily from the body and is always in the way when trying to access the bag.  But each to his own.
