Those bits are categorized as "aircraft length", as opposed to mechanics or jobber length. Search for "1/16 aircraft length drill bit" and you'll get a dozen hits for them in the 6"-12" range.

I made my own by silver soldering a length of 1/16" drill rod (music wire) to a new 1/16" bit.  I use "V" blocks and magnets.
Been thinking about this thread, and thought I might add a little of the joinery technique for those who might like to try it.
Holding the music wire and drill bit parallel to each other, I introduce the ends to the belt grinder so that I cut a bevel on both at the same time, about 1/4" long.  Then I lay them into "V" blocks or secure them in the head and tail stock of my lathe to bring the ends together perfectly.  Flux, and heat to red, add silver solder, let cool and file smooth.  Make a drill bit as long as you like this way, any size.

There have been a few instances where my 1 /16th bit wasn't long enough to drill through a stock .
I simply drill as far as I can comfortably go without the arbor marring the surface, and then change to a piece of sharpened 1/16th music wire. It follows the hole and drills through just fine.

Taylor and Bob - thank you both!  We have this forum to learn about how and what our forefathers did, what their life was like.  A lot of "Yankee ingenuity" to get things done without an Amazon or Walmart around.

Your gift of "how to"'s really shines.
