Could you just thin the wiping varnish and use it as a sealer?

Hi,
I've used it quite a bit.  It is a mix of polymerized tung oil with urethane varnish.  It makes a fine gunstock finish and can be thinned for a sealer.  It has a slightly more "on the surface and brittle" appearance than the polymerized tung oil alone.  It also requires fewer coats.  I use it when building Brown Bess muskets to get a more varnish look to the finish.
