period this buttplate could be

That one has been around since the 1970s. I’ve seen it called Allentown. With that width and length it’s for a fairly early gun. If annealed also easily modified. It has about zero dome.

I used that buttplate on my first build in 1978. I cut and filed a thumbnail extension on it.

Bob Kern ran a muzzle loading shop in Ligonier, Pa. not far from the fort. IIRC he died around the late 70's early 80's. His daughter tried running it for awhile but it folded soon after Bob's death.
