OK  - I am happy to put on these matches.  I hope we'll have some decent participation , but we'll see what happens.

RIFLE MATCH-for fun, we'll have a pretend hunt.  You will need to post 2 targets , one with 2 shots and a second with 3 shots. This is to help with scoring. You can shoot multiple targets if you wish . up to 5 pairs , but only your top 2 will be added up for score.
This will be at 25 yards, off hand.   Draw 2 lines following the outside edges of the front legs, up and across the body. This will form an X  .  Any shot that is a fair kill shot in the boiler room, neck, or brain is a 5 count.   Any other body hit is a 3,   break a leg for a 1   The " X" is for tie breaking.
Closest to the X is the goal.   I've looked at this target from 25 yards distance, and I think it will be more difficult than many might think. I'm posting an example of what a deer looks like at 100 yards just for a comparison .  The target is available on Targetz  # 30010

SMOOTHBORE MATCH-  again at 25 yards, off hand.  5 shots
centre hit  scores 5 , next ring a 4 , then 3 and the outer black is a 2   Any hit on paper scores a 1       Post your top score.   Sighted smoothbores are OK,; just let us know whether you are using a back sight or not  The smoothbore target is # 10142
Shoot up to 5 targets if you wish.

As usual,  1/2 ball rule applies
Good luck to all, and have fun.  :)

Prizes as follows- Rifle match- Frank House DVD   Smoothbore match - W. White DVD

Any maximum number of targets? I think there should be to make it fair. I know I am a simple pup but I don't get the "X" drawn on the deer. Can you draw one and post a picture of it?

Thanks Mike. I have allowed a max of 5 targets per match...so the rifle match would have up to 5 pairs of targets etc

Ref the " X"    take a ruler and line it up with the outside edge of each of the front legs and draw a line up and through the body.    You will get an " X"  I will try and post a picture tomorrow

Like I said I am a simple pup. Got it, going to be out of town off and on this month but will try to get the targets shot. I used a narrow "white out" to make the "X" then mad 9 copies worked fine.

First time at the range since getting back home.  Unable to shoot at National Forest, because of fire danger.
Shot one pair of targets today.
I penciled in the x but can't be seen in photos.
I count the left target a 13, I am touching the x but not a spider.
Second target is an obvious 8, for a total of 21
I like it, I will shoot it again.

Forgot the particulars. .451 ball , 70 grains goex 3f. bear lubed Jo Ann's pocket drill

Only if you want to.  You can take part in the rifle match, the smoothbore match, or both.

I shot these yesterday. It was a really crappy day to shoot very windy and overcast. However I had the range to myself. I was shooting my .58 jaeger.
Using 70grains of Goex 2f. 562 ball with bear lubed 12 oz denim. I score this one a 14, as I only nicked the leg in the right target.

First time submitting targets. Here’s a couple smoothbore targets but I don’t know how to score them.

I enlarged the targets, and agree. 14 it is  :)

Thanks for taking part in this smoothbore match PK.  Welcome aboard  :)

Ref scoring:  The centre is a 5 , next circle is a 4, then a 3, and then a 2  Any hit on paper scores a 1

We use the " 1/2 ball rule" so if your shot dissects a line, the ball must be at least 1/2 in the higher scored zone to allow it.  Therefore,
your first target scores a 17
your second target scores as 19.  It was a close call with that 5/4 hit, but after enlarging the target, more than 1/2 the ball was in the 4 ring [  but it was close !!!]
Good shooting !

Thanks Bob and thanks for including me in your shoot. Reading the posts above it looks like I can shoot 3 more targets. I’ll get on it.

Thanks. No rear sight. It’s a Fusil de Chasse, .62 cal. It’s my favorite gun and probably do 90% of my shooting with it.
