Norwegian #2 Grindereng muzzleloader looks like

With out hijacking the thread, the rifle could be a cross between a Dimick Rifle and a Virginia.

For a Norwegian #2 Grindereng , what breech plug and lock would you use?

What style breech would you use?

I want to use a hooked breech.

I have seen a round bottom Dimick hooked breech that looks very similar.

Or would you just round off an English breech?

Didn't he show how he 'made' the breech in his topic? seems to me he fab'd the bolster section and silver soldered it on..

Still have a bit of Covid brain, so I might be a lil fuzzy on the details ( gonna have to go back through his original thread )

Metalshaper, I had not seen the pistol thread.

Thanks!

The pistol breech is different than the rifle.

Just wondering If you took and English breech, rounded the rear of the underside, if that would work?

B,

just my opinion..  I think if you were careful on how much you are taking away from the original surfaces.. you could get away with it?
go slow and measure often as you reshape and you should be good?

This Dimick has a rounded hooked breech.

I have noticed that many of the English Locks a parallel to the barrel and need to be lowered in the rear to match the curve of the stock.

The radius make it much easier to tilt the lock.

Or you need to taper the bottom of the English lock. Skinny up the front.

B, call "The Rifle Shoppe" out in Indian Territory (Oklahoma) - they do not have pictures on their web pages, but they do have plenty of locks.  When you settle on one (or two or three), give them a call and ask if the parts are in stock, or if they have to be made at the foundry.  405-356-2583

Do these look like a Dimick crossed with an English Sporter?
