Jaeger nipple guard/ safety
« on: August 06, 2021, 05:57:15 PM »
Just found these again.

Jaeger nipple guard/ safety

They use the frizzen screw for a cap cover in the conversion.

My question is do the automatically open upon cocking?

Or do you have to open them by hand?

They use the spring as a pivot, but how do they work?

Thanks!

The Rifle Shoppe has one but it does not look like a converted flintlock.

These look like they are made to stay down, and you have to move them by hand.

The pivot looks to be placed so that they stay on the nipple.

I would think that they should open upon cocking.

Any way, they are interesting.

It could be more of a long term safety than a half cock?

Here is one that is interesting. They kept the frissen spring to tension the nipple cover. It requires the tipping it forward by hand to uncover the percussion nipple.

Dave B, it seems that you "could" position the old frizzen spring so that the cover would move upward/forward upon cocking.  In other words, the cover "wants" to open, but the percussion cock is holding it down.
That way would obviate moving the safety cover manually.
