Based on the patchbox's shape and engraving style, it is probably a New York rifle. However, the engraving appears to run off the end of the lid, suggesting the box was taken from an earlier rifle, slightly modified [lid and side leaves shortened] and then reused on this late half-stocked rifle. Note the fit of the box against butt plate is rather poor on this rifle. The odd cheekpiece would suggest even the later half-stocked rifle may be from New York, and the small oval lock bolt washer was a common style used on NY guns. I think you have a late NY half-stocked rifle that reused parts from an earlier NY gun. Shelby Gallien
