Grandson's rifle

Finished my youngest granddson's rifle.  All 3 Grandsons and my granddaughter each have one of my rifles.

This has an Ed Rayl Barrel Dave Keck inlet onto a Dunlap walnut blank.  The swamped barrel is 42 inches long and 45 cal.  I used Bob Roller double set compound triggers and one of Jim Kibler's new locks.  There is a Chambers vent hole liner.






The tock was hand-sawn, planed and scrapped.  I saved the plane shavings to burnish the stock






It has a stepped cheekpiece in the fashion of the brass barreled rifle and a brass toe plate and nosecap to fancy it up.

Tim, he is 5' 9" and grew out of the transitional Jaeger I was building him.  His sister has that now

Heinz,  Great job.  I'm doing the same for my FOUR grandsons.  I built a J.P. Beck for my son so am making all the boys the same rifle,  Two down and two to go.  The last two are both lefty's so a little more challenging for me.  All (yours, mine and others)  will hopefully have a lifetime of enjoyment from these guns and maybe remember Grandad and tell the story to their grandkids of how we built them for their pleasure so long ago.

On that picture, where you are ripping alongside the barrel to remove the excess stock, how are you keeping that cut straight?
