Newly Completed Griffin Rifle
« on: August 18, 2021, 09:33:23 PM »
As usual, I know that my work is not nearly as good as many members on this forum..

Just completed this rifle. Modeled after the Oerter Rifle. Ed Parry helped me out on wirework and engraving. I carved the griffin and completed all else.

Every rifle is an opportunity to learn and sharpen skills. This one was a blast to make. Love the Christian Springs style rifle and carving!

John Christian Oerter is looking down and smiling right now. It’s great that a man long since gone still inspires.
Congratulations

Fine contemporary rendition of the Griffin rifle.  A lot of hours on that build I bet!  I would like to know what procedure / techniques you used to drill out the hinge pin on that patchbox.  That can be one challenging job on that box - looks like you were successful at getting it installed.

Thanks to all. It was the most fun I have had carving a rifle. Played only Mozart and period music and found it very relaxing and I joked with my wife that the stock liked it as well—no chips or major mistakes:)
