Runar, That's an interesting looking rifle with the angular comb and the cheek piece running right into the wrist/comb area.  The only complaint I  have, and it's purely personal, is the lock. I know back action locks work, but they are just ugly.

I am not a big fan of the back action lock and would agree with the previous post but on this rifle it looks good  8)- my two cents worth ;).

Nice rifle from a high-quality builder. BA locks may not be pretty but they function well, and I believe leave a stronger stock in the lock area.
kind regards, heinz

I likeit. The abrupt transition from the comb to the wrist is good looking at least to me.I have seen many back action locks that are very high quality and full the equal of the conventional locks found on high end guns.Ruckliegendschloss,gestern.Heute,Morgen ;D.

I like it very much. That's an interesting forward ramrod pipe? I can't tell on my phone, but is the lid of the patch box checkered?

I’m not much for back action locks, but that rifle looks nice.  Does it weight much?

I think that would make a fantastic stalking rifle Runar. What caliber is it, how long is the barrel?  I believe it to be a very good looking rifle for the period.

Interesting catch on the patch box lid.  I would guess it's spring loaded in some manner?  Leaf or coil spring underneath?  Overall a very fine rifle from a noted maker.

Would this rifle still be called a Jaeger?

With the set triggers and the provision for a folding tang sight I think this might be called in German Der Jaeger/Buchse oder Scheibenbuchse. Hunter/hunting rifle or target rifle. There is in my prejudiced opinion absolutely nothing there to NOT like except it isn't mine :'(
Bob Roller
Those triggers are much like some I made in the early 1980's and again for a German customer.I have even thought of making a few of them for sale but I have no way to do them at an affordable price.Maybe a CNC shop might take them on but sales would be really limited.

Runar, I am always jealous of what you do and what passes through your shop. I do have a question regarding the bottom of the tang which extends beyond the bottom flat of the barrel. What is the purpose or reasoning for this? The patchbox latch is sensational.

Runar, I think you might be right. The photos don't show a whole lot of wood left on the lock side.

Thanks,
Dave

I kinda like back action locks. I even thought about building a Hawken with one just for fun. I would have to turn that front sight around though.

SUPPOSEDLY there was a Hawken  with a back action  lock in a collection in Michigan in a place called The Military Inn.I am relying on a feeble memory and have no way to verify this and I think the place burned down taking a good size gun collection with it.Anybody here ever hear of this place or the collection???

Are you thinking of Andy Palmer's Military Inn?  It was in Dearborn Mich. and was built with materials from the old Dearborn Arsenal. When I was just a sprout, age 12, my parents bought me a book by Hank Wieand Bowman called Famous Guns From Famous Collections.  It mentioned Palmer's Military Inn in Michigan.  I had to dig that book out of the bookcase, I had forgotten about it.  They bought it for me in 1960 according to the note Mom wrote on the fly leaf.  I looked through the pictures but there were no Hawken rifles listed in the book. He was supposed to have over 10,000 guns in the collection.

Yes,that's the one and how many years has it been? It is certainly possible that a Hawken was not in the disaster but probably even rarer ones were.
