That's a wild patchbox! I have a similar brass box with a silver distlefink, but I inlaid it first and haven't engraved it yet.

Nice work Jim.   You are starting to make those southern guns look almost as good as some of the PA guns...I had to do that buddy.

Fantastic work, Jim!  Best looking patch box bird I've seen.

Ron, I just can't help it. I love the PA guns but my heart is in the Good Old South so I decided to dress up an Iron gun.  ;D

As usual a very nice job Jim. I think you got the English-style pheasant dead-on, it looks very good and most engraved birds look like road-kill chickens if not done carefully.

I think you should send it to me in Washington State so you are not tempted to put it on a gun!  On a serious note, it looks amazing!

Beautiful Jim,
It really looks vintage and a perfect fit for an 18th or early 19th century gun.

Mr Parker, you are not going to just dress up that Southern rifle . You are going to put a tuxedo and top hat on it !
Great work, and a fantastic treatment to transition from a Penn, to Southern style box.!

What is that stuff that it is set in?  Where do you get it and how do you use it?

Cory, that is Thermo Loc and it is sold by the GRS Corp. It is a plastic that you can heat and it will soften and let you set your piece into it, when it cools it hardens back up and locks your piece in place. To remove your work you just heat it up again to soften and release the part. I use a heat gun to heat it. The best part is that it is reusable. It's not cheap but it works great.

CCF this is a Jim Parker original design that is loosely based on an original box that I have admired for a long time but with a southern twist.
