Here’s a little taste of my most recent carving progress, it ranges from some grounded areas, some stabbed areas and some still only penciled. So far no disasters, so I’m happy.

Hi Jeff,
I really like how you blended Lehigh and Lancaster carving styles. The mix is stunning and a nice change from the usual designs you see on those guns. You have to really understand the design styles to blend them successfully and have it look vintage and authentic and not an obviously modern fantasy. You succeeded extremely well! Good job.

Hi Mike,
The scroll design behind the cheek piece is very Lancaster like or you can compare it to some guns attributed to Albrecht.

I don’t think it would be fair to say Albrecht was a Lancaster gunsmith. He was trained in Europe then opened a shop in Christian Springs, Northampton County.

Mike, I had not seen that gun before. Boy, I really like that design. It is similar to work by Albrecht and even some wire work by Oerter. Despite perhaps those Bethlehem or Christian's Spring influences the basic scroll design is also similar to work done by other Moravians in Lancaster. The important point is that Jeff nailed a great design that is different from most Lehighs that I have seen and I like the design because it blends different styles very well.

Dave, thanks for the comments.
Even though I can’t take credit for the originality of the design, you hit on some of the key aspects that I found appealing about the design.
It does feel to me like a bit of link between some of the work from CS and later Lehigh work.
