« on: October 29, 2021, 11:02:16 PM »
Long time ago, a saw a formula for measuring the sights on the gun , I’m shooting 5 inches low at 30 yards, need to know how much to remove on the front sight or approximately so the i could complete it at the range

Sight height(s) above the bore & sight radius needed, seems to me.
With it being 5" low, I would automatically file 1/8" off the top of the front sight.
Then, about .050" per filing job until zeroed where I wanted it, likely 1/2" high at that range.
I have only ever shot and filed while at the range.  My .69's sights were 'made' .050" shorter to the middle
of the front sight. That gave me zeros at 25 and 50yards with plinking load, and 100 yard zero with the hunting load.

sight regulation
A=bxc/d
or in english
A is the correction needed
b is the inches between the front and rear sight
c how many inches off the  bullseye
divided by distance to target in inches (900inches in 25yards)

or in your case A=bx5/1080

Probably not a necessary thought, but assume you have your "choice" load (hunting or plinking) already worked out before you start filing

Not really, just want to bring it a bit closer. I think that 5 inches is a tad low, I would then work for the load before finalizing the filing. It almost perfectly dead on the bull so i may not need to move the sights that much.
It’s a .54 cal with gain twist and will shoot a round ball for the projectile This will be a gun for deer.
I hope to be able to finish the sighting in after deer season if mother winter is not in a rush, then the .36

I would simply take an 1/8th inch off the top of the front blade, then work up a load and worry about sighting it in after finding what it wants to shoot.
