Guys,

Here is one, entirely hand made, lock - stock - barrel.  A 0.51 caliber barrel 51" long.

Here's one of mine, which I bought in the white, also a first for me. Cherry stock, 62 caliber, bore measures about .613 IIRC. I used cold blue paste on the barrel and rest of the furniture, except for the lock.

Here's one I made this summer...I guess it's more "smooth rifle" than fowler. 20 gauge

It is bewildering the amount of artistic genius possessed by various builders in this community. I am in awe…

Here is my favourite partridge gun.  20 bore Colerain 38 in barrel, Davis lock, curly maple stock with cherry guard and pipes ..no butt plate .  Trigger is cold forged brass.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Wow, very nice pieces on display here!

To be clear, what is considered a "club butt" or "club foot" stock?  Is it a generally beefier buttstock with thicker wood near the buttplate?  Or is it also a shape (like Rich Pierce's first fowler pictured above)?

What was the purpose of the club butt?  I surmise it may have been a feature that lent itself well to defending oneself in a fight, but I could see where perhaps it was meant to add weight and reduce felt recoil.

If it was easy, everyone would do it.

A fowling piece made by my mentor and friend Jim Hash based on an original once owned by Jerry Scales. All handmade except the lock which is a Chambers.

A hodge-podge composite monstrosity I built for a friend who already had the six foot, 12 ga. Rayl barrel into a maple stock. Hardened leather "buttplate", rotating box cover.

Maryland/Armstrong style I made a couple years ago.  44" Colerain turkey choke 20ga, Late Ketland lock.  Really nice carrying gun.

Here is another fowler in my collection.  Everyone should recognize Chuck Edwards work.
