Kibler Southern Mountain Rifle by Jack Garner
« on: December 02, 2021, 03:36:06 AM »
I recently received my Kibler .36 Southern Mountain Rifle in "plain" maple. Jack Garner took the kit and added the patchbox, browned metal and a wonderful wood finish! Although I ordered a plain grade maple stock, this stock has some pretty curl. Im very grateful to jim and jack for all their work! (Last picture is of my kibler with another kibler .36 in walnut that a good friend recently completed)

Now take that fine looking rifle out and shoot the December "Postal Match" offered up in the Black Powder Shooting file.

Linseed oil, sunshine and time.

Its a walnut stock -and my buddy took about 2 months to finish it - he would layer coats of linseed oil and let them dry in the sun - he described it as linseed oil baked in the sun to darken it. I really like the depth of the color.

Any idea how that walnut stock was finished.
