2 old coots
« on: December 05, 2021, 12:56:12 AM »
Blake Lee, (on the left), one of my club shoot buddies and myself at the O.T.F. December shoot. Blake makes all of his own gear, horns, bags and sews his own leathers with sinew. We did kid him about needing to "grease up" and drag those new leathers behind his truck through a muddy field. However it was only 45 degrees with a cold mist so he was the only one in period clothing that wasn't cold. Of course I left my big colonial coat at home. What's the old adage:
It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it".

Cool! I agree, those skins need a bunch of rendezvous time. Yours are looking pretty clean, too, Mike.

You should have seen them after almost 2 weeks at the Pacific Primitive. When I got home wife hosed me off in the drive before she would let me enter the garage to disrobe.

The way my body is changing, I'd be wearing some good thermals under those leathers at 45 deg.  Much colder, TWO sets of good thermals!

Still in the process of making some warm mukluks for this winter that is here too soon.

Muskrat, you are looking well.

-11 here this morning, with a bit of snow - wife going on a hike today.
Not THAT cold, at 12.2F. A mite cooler than 45, though.

You guys look good. Dirt and grime from honest wear looks best on skins.

I guess if a millennial or two saw you stepping out of the woods dressed correctly like that,  we'd be hearing screaming and running.  Looking good though, Muskrat.

That's quite the bonnet MM!  You could hide a ham and a loaf of bread in there.

Thought I saw a tail…But you’ll like this hat. Caught me 7 rats to get this hat made. It’s one of my ice fishing Tuks.

That's quite a hat, Nessmuk. 1st thing I thought, was "prickly heat".  At -40 or colder, it would work perfectly. I don't have any hair left on the top of me
head and scant few hairs on the sides, now but the lining of a hat is very important to me. I'm mildly sensitive to wool.skin contact & the only toque I have
that I can wear, if it's cold enough, my older daughter knitted for me, from Alpaca wool. It's very light weight, but extremely warm.
Taylor and I were issued rat hats when in the "Force".

Same goes for the big green wool bonnet, anything over 50 degrees and it's time to change to the Balmoral.

Had to go look up that Scotch.   Dont think I have ever had it.    The good thing is the online store is out of the 52 year old stuff at 30K.   It would have to be a heck of a friend to share a shot of that.

Yikes - I agree.  If you like rum, a 15 year old Eldorado is a very nice "sipping" rum
& about 1/2 the cost of the Scotch. As with the scotch, 12 year of Eldorado is quite nice too.

The only type of whisky (or any spirit) I've ever poured down the sink is Scotch. Maybe I'm just spoiled by growing up with whisky in its highest form....Kentucky Bourbon.
