Trigger guard is mounted with screws and I made the grip rail slightly longer than on Jack's rifle to fit my hand better. Very comfortable now but will still improve when I take the wood to its final dimensions.

Made a couple brass pipes for an otherwise iron mounted rifle with a brass lock plate. Jack's rifle has copper pipes.

Made a lot of wood shavings today and compared measurements to Jack's rifle. Still whittling at least 1/8 inch off the forearm profile and trying not to chicken out. Dang, how'd he do that I say talking to myself?

I truly appreciate you sharing this! It absolutely is sexy and I may have to attempt one someday. I'll have to learn to forge a butt plate and return first

I'd estimate that rod is almost long enough.

Etching the barrel with spiral wrapped strips of cloth soaked in bleach. We'll have to wait and see if the spiral pattern transfers to the barrel or not. Still shaping the stock and measuring occasionally all the time looking to see how close it's approaching Jack's rifle. Definitely getting the Soddy Daisy look I'm shooting for.

Healing up the stock crack that developed 5 months ago. This is not the only area that cracked and the stock has been very chippy throughout the build process.

Also shown is the barrel etching progress at 24 hours.

What kind of cloth do you use to wrap the barrel? Anything special?

I'm using long strips about 1 inch wide torn from a bed-sheet. Barrel is suspended by the barrel pin holes outside where there's plenty of ventilation. I'm holding a coffee cup underneath and move along the barrel using a natural hair paint brush every few hours. Funny thing I started with a plastic brush but it melted so you know the solution is caustic. A mask is probably a good idea even outside.

It's still an experiment at this point not a proven method.

Hope this barrel treatment isnt too aggressive, I tried something a few years ago and did not like how quickly it did it’s thing.  Will be interesting to see how this comes out.

Here's how the barrel looks compared to Jack's rifle. I think the etching turned out the way I wanted it to. It will darken a bit closer to the same color during the finishing process.
