I am not sure that I understand the "back strap". Are you not going to use a complete buttplate?
When riveting that toe plate, do you have to be concerned about breaking the wood? That’s one thing I’ve never tried to do. Do you inlet the toe plate after buttplate, drill the hole and then rivet with parts off the stock?
Here's a picture of a copper rivet I'm making part way through the tap tap tapity tap and file process. Why would anyone build a copper rivet from scratch when they can buy them so cheaply? I believe that the old dead guys (ODGs) did the same thing 200 years ago, they had a need for one and didn't have any on hand so they made them.

Could you elaborate on the process that you used to fabricate the "heal" portion of your buttplate? Did you use a swage? The piece is obviously tapered from top to bottom, is it also tapered from side to side? This is quite interesting.
