Zero here. I learned a crud ring lesson from keeping one loaded to long.  And it seems to me like an old charge is slower?? Id like you expert’s to weigh in on that…

I'm no expert, but when I shoot my un-utilized hunting load, sometimes a few or several months later, I always use a target at average hunting shot distance, and the ball always hits it with deer-class accuracy.  No crud.

If it is deer hunting season I usually have one loaded flintlock in my truck out in the garage. I loaded my gun as well as all my hunting and deer dragging stuff the day before deer season and tore the meniscus in my knee the same day, all has been waiting for me to put it to use since November 14. Hopefully I can after my surgery next Friday and a little recovery time.

As for the modern stuff that I keep scattered around the house, it is all ready to rock and roll. As an elderly man who lives alone at the end of a dead end road out in the boonies and am taking no chances.

ZERO, since I haven't actually hunted in the past few years.  But when I did hunt there were always one or two loaded and waiting their turn.
But year-round there are always two or three modern wheel guns stashed in special places.  No kids to worry about just my squeeze and I.

Zero,  It is illegal to do so in my area.   I would never leave a fully loaded firearm laying around even if it was legal.

I do keep a couple of modern firearms in small touch button safes with a loaded magazine inserted.  The chamber is not loaded.  These are strictly emergency response tools.

Before I had kids of my own I did keep a loaded revolver in the night stand.  A visitor's toddler child found it, we found him playing with it.  It was a near tragedy.

My .45 flint longrifle is very often loaded and hanging high on the wall (empty pan) with it's bag and horn hanging near it.  It's my favorite critter getter and walking rifle so it gets used several times a week, maybe everyday.   A empty gun is really no use to anyone.

Never kept a muzzle loading rifle loaded but did use a percussion revolver in 1950 on a bum that tried to pull my mother out of the house.Modern guns are always loaded.
Bob Roller

I read about someone who had an incident in which they used a percussion revolver. The police, sorting things out, took custody of the gun. The officer asked, "How do I unload it?"

All my guns are loaded, until I check them with a ramrod, which I do every time I take one out.  It's an old habit I picked up decades ago

All I am going to say is this topic something that is to be decided by the individual and his comfort zone and situation. Me personally I keep a modern handgun within reach 90% of the time as I live alone. I see no need to have a muzzle loader or BP revolver loaded in the house ::).

Just a few feet outside my door I have several backstops, 25yds,35yds and 70yds.  In front of these backstops hang tin cans or steel gongs.  Seems a couple times a week these cans and gongs get hostile ideas so I have to step outside and put down the rebellion before it gets out of hand.  It's only common sense to keep a longrifle loaded (empty pan) for just these emergencies.   Then of coarse there are often whaskily wabbits, squirrels or coyotes.  There are modern guns around the house but I enjoy shooting my muzzleloaders and with the cost and decline of reloading componants it's much cheaper as well.

Call it what you will but common sense it's not.
