We lost a great human being. I was pleased he always remembered Susan and me when we visited. He was unforgettable. A great teacher and wise and good man.

I never met him, my loss but talked with him on the phone and did some business with him. He was always pleasant to talk with and do business with. A true giant in our pastime.

This is very sad news. He was a great man. I can't imagine where muzzleloading here in PA would be if he never would have opened the shop or held the gun maker's fair. He made a huge impact.

The first time I decided I needed to get a table at the Gunmaker's Fair, I was living up here with no phone and no power in the late 1990s, and I figured the best way to get the straight skinny was to simply hit up Chuck directly.  So I wrote him a very long and detailed letter, in pencil.  Chuck wrote me back an equally long letter, also in pencil, AND made sure to let me know that he appreciated the use of the #2 pencil, which apparently was also his preferred writing implement of choice.  He was one $#*! of a guy!

There’s one big pair of shoes nobody will ever fill. The muzzloading community in Pa will never know his many contributions to the sport. A truly good guy. He will be missed. BJH

I met Chuck, briefly when Taylor and I made the trip to Dixons - a buncha years ago.
Nice man indeed.
Rest in Piece Chuck.
My best wishes to his family and friends.

My prayers go out to Chuck and his family.  His contribution to black powder shooting cannot be estimated.

I was last able to sit andtalk to him during the 2017 Gunmaker's Fair.  We sat on the porch of his house looking over the event.  Age was not being kind to him.  He had at that point lost all of his old memories of the event, the business and all of the people he had known.  He was really upset about the loss of memory.  Just sort of living from one day to the next.

Just saw this post.  So sad, a good man indeed.  Remember him sitting on his porch the last few years.  What a loss.

Chuck was a visionary when he started the Muzzleloader Builders Faire thirty-some years ago.  Originally started to help showcase his unique business, Chuck had no idea the popularity of the faire would grow to the point that it would become somewhat of a vacation destination the last weekend of July for muzzle loading enthusiasts.   He was a wealth of information for individuals just entering the sport and was willing to share that knowledge to anyone seeking help.  He will be missed.

Never met the man, but his presence was always with me. I used his book The Art Building the Pennsylvania Longrifle, as my guide and introduction to building MLs.
