Investment cast mounts

I am in process of making molds for my June seminar and thought there might be some interest in seeing the butt cap for the pistol (wax). Using Silicone and plywood frames for limited production parts is reasonably  economical.

That looks really good. It has been about 30 years since I cast anything of consequence and I'm sure techniques have improved. I have a friend (who is in quality control for rocket motors) who has started a small foundry, but right now we are covered up with casting industrial and/or antique parts in iron with sand molds. Hope to get some brass done later this year. I don't want to be "in the business", but hope to develop another supplier who will cast what we want for our type of guns.

Ron, if you are so inclined, I would like to see how you make your master mold. I get the silicone rubber part, but I'm not sure how you use plywood?

I wish I had know that. I just sold over a ton of yellow brass I have saved for years. 
I have some more that will go when I get time to mess with it. If that is of interest, I
can mail you a small sample.

Ron,

I did the same thing after visiting Jerry Huddleston some years ago and seeing how he did this sort of thing.  I skipped the wood box and just used a piece of schedule 80 PVC pipe. I cut a gentile taper on the ID of the pipe on the lathe so that the mold is easy to get in and out.
