BENSON RIFLE
FROM PRESTON CO. WEST VIRGINIA
GEORGE W. BENSON   HALF STOCK SILVER MTD. .30 CAL

Comments:

Great W VA rifle; and in fine condition. Benson was an interesting fellow who worked well into the cartridge period, even producing single shot guns with traditional Kentucky silver inlay ornamentation. Some of his late guns have aluminum inlays. Whisker's book on W VA gun makers shows an early photograph of Benson sitting on the steps of his front porch with a sign and a rack of rifles that he made. The photo shows the guns to be a trifle on the gaudy side, but this gun is probably be one of his earlier products, as it is very traditional.
In my opinion, this is an ideal W VA rifle for the Library and will represent the style and school very well.

A very attractive rifle, with great architecture and tasteful decoration.  The condition is just the way we like them to look.
