Bag #46 - English Influence - Worn In
« on: January 30, 2022, 09:22:24 PM »
Hi Folks,

I just finished up a bag that is headed for South Carolina for a gentleman who carries one of Don Bruton's fine guns and who portrays a Southern militiaman.  It has an English influenced shaped, and it has my "worn in" finish on it.

The body is 3-4 ounce veg tanned cowhide lined in 100% cotton heavy canvas.  There is a cowhide stiffener at the top back, a rolled buckskin top front edge.  The inside of the flap is lined in smooth cowhide.  Straps are 4-5 ounce cowhide.  The lovely solid brass buckle is by Richard Lanni and I antiqued it and added the iron tongue. It is about 8.5" wide and 8" tall.   It is strong but remains supple after my finish work.

I hope y'all enjoy it.   God Bless,   Marc

Now THAT is a nice bag and would be a perfect bag for my 14 bore rifle.

Beautiful bag Marc, little touches that makes it a "Top Shelf" piece of work.

Mighty fine bag.   Just the way I like them.  Simple, with a touch of refinement and aging.

I agree that it is a nice bag, but the straps aren't strong enough for your load of 14 bore balls.

Nor wide enough, but all that can be worked into mfgr.

Thanks for sharing, Marc, and including details we all can learn from. Really nice, as usual! I have sewn 2, definitely with your help in source of materials and design.   RMann  (Maybe one of these days I'll have one of my kids post a picture... I'm kinda handicapped)

Just out of curiousity Daryl, how much weight to do you carry to a shoot with your 14 bore?   14 balls to a pound I am assuming.  Just trying to do some mental math.  These 4-5 ounce straps will hold quite a bit, and they are glued and heavy stitched to the bag.  I'd think the width would be the issue with lots of weight - pressure on your shoulder.  I typically use the 1" width as many bags were made that way back in the day.
