Jim Spray Iron Tip On An Outside The Box Horn
« on: February 07, 2022, 05:08:37 PM »
It is about 9 1/4" around the outside curve and 7 tip-to-tip. The butt is Walnut about 1 5/8" wide, it is threaded 1/2-8. The threaded dowel is Hickory, screwed into the cap and secured with a steel pin. Attached to the horn with 3 steel pins.
The tip is one Jim made for me, it is very well done. It is pinned to the horn body by 3 steel nails. The bands are Pewter and held in place by 3 pins each. For the color it was boiled in a mix of water based dye. The strap keeper is 1/16", the legs were pounded square and small barbs were cut all around to hold it in place.
The bottom with it in my hand give you a better idea of its size,

  Tim C.

Not your usual style brother!   Neat horn, especially with those pewter bands.  What is all of that white stuff in the background?  :-D

Lot of work in that horn. Very nice. Now you made me want to try pewter bands.

Beautiful horn.  The pewter bands really set it off!

If you haven't seen it this may help. Any questions just ask.

Thanks for the positive comments. It is different but the proportions worked out well and  it's a solid little horn.
