Got a great stock blank!

 I was at the Lake Cumberland show this weekend and my buddy Troy Sweeney showed up too and brought some stocks to sell. The one pictured below was one of 6 that I bought. I don’t really endorse vendors BUT this guy has some excellent wood at a fair (1980s) price. This blank is 2 3/4” sugar maple. He tells me that this is dried to 7%. Troy is a member of ALR. I’m sure that he would reply to your personal message. If you can’t get ahold of him let me know.
 I’m going to build from this one. Still studying on what school to dance with.

Very nice chunk of maple.  Lots of curl going on in that one.  Kind of ironic that in the photo its keeping company with a bunch of firestarter logs.

Troy has some of the best wood out there and at reasonable prices. That is a beauty, Wayne.  I have one I got from him about five years ago, when he was just starting. I won't touch it till I come up with something that will do it justice. It has been in Arizona for that long and I would say it is dry.

 Thought I might turn you loose with it! Actually I haven’t put too much thought into what to do with it. First thought was “don’t let this one get away”. Ideas forthcoming.

I’ve handled a lot of stock blanks in the past 40 years, including 2 genuine blanks from the famed Slippery Rock tree and this stick may be the best. I’m not going say it’s the best one ever but it’s a sure enough one hot rod piece of wood.
