(New) Original Virginia Pouch
« on: October 09, 2009, 11:16:18 PM »
Hi Folks:

Well, this got completed sooner than expected, so I thought I would share it with you. This is a copy of the original Virginia pouch I posted earlier. The pouch is 7" wide at the top, 7.5" at the bottom by 7" deep. Made from 3oz. veg. tan cowhide.  Full inside divider. Tied strap adjustment, per the original.

I tried to keep all of the features and look of the original intact. See what you think.

I agree with Brian. The old pouches were generally made in a simpler fashion to be used. These folks didn't have a week to sit around making a pouch. They needed something to work.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,

That is good stuff. There is a small privately owned museum in Southwest Virginia not far from my house and I go there pretty often.  They have a few old pouches there and one of them looks a lot like this one.  Nice work.  If you ever want to pair something like that up with a nice poor boy style horn let me know.  Be a fun project.

I LIKE that.  I really do!  Well done.  That is a fine looking pouch.  I'd carry that ANY day anywhere.  Nice job.

Thanks to everyone for the nice comments. I enjoyed making this one a lot. The simpler pouches can often be the most fun, and very useful as well.

Since I still have all of my fingers after spinning those horns at Conner Prairie, I will be making some more.

Thanks again,

Jeff

Jeff - It was fun, wasn't it.  Now we have to find a super low speed lathe.

I had the pleasure of seeing Jeff's pouches and some originals he has done preservation on (replacing small parts to blend).
These pictures do not even begin to capture how they look and feel. Super work. Rick
