The photos below were sent to me by a Texas museum thinking it might be a Gillespie rifle since it seems it belonged to a family that lived near Asheville NC before they moved to Texas. It is a Gillespie but may possibly have been made in thst area.

Two features I'm not sure I've seen on a Gillespie are the rearward facing triggerguard rear spur (usually curve forward), and the point in the toeplate (not sure this isn't on any Gillespies...looking at books now, including yours!)

 Is that the lock from this gun laying next to it? If so it would be easier to get a better mental picture if it were fitted in the mortise. Although the gun is defiantly southern. I don’t know enough about Gillespie built guns to make that call.
