Early rifle/Jaeger

                I built this rifle at the request of a client who apparently I had influenced many years ago.  I have pretty much stopped taking orders, to spend more time on my wife's care.  The client contacted me and said that years ago he had attended a Rocky Mt. Elk banquet.  I was displaying a rifle that I had designated "The Baroque rifle".   He continued that my wife was also his music teacher, but that he decided then and there when he could afford it he would have such a rifle.   He continued that his is now a Border Patrol agent, and would dearly like to have one of my rifles.   Well, It is pretty hard to turn down a guy with a story like that.   We decided that like the Baroque rifle this gun would be an early rifle that jumps the gap from a pure Jaeger to an early progenitor of a longrifle.  A Rice 37" 58 cal. barrel was married to a Chambers  early Germanic lock, along with double set triggers.  Like the Baroque rifle this gun was fit out with Dubbs hardware.  I had to make the sideplate as none were available any more.    The stock is American walnut stained with LMF honey maple to warm it up a bit, but not destroy the color variations.  The variegated star is made of ivory and ebony piano keys.  I got an opportunity to sight it in this afternoon, and I do not think he will be dissapointed.

I really like the treatment of the barrel in front of the tang. I have exactly the same barrel on my Jaeger, and it is a shooter. The carving on the tang is splendid and ambitious. The more German/Germanic rifles I see, the more I like them. Good Job.
