Just wondering if any has tried sc load in a 28 gauge cb ,and what loads are giving good patterns in your smb thanks in advance ,walt

I would suggest something like 55 to 60gr. 2F and 1ounce of shot.

I must be too old, I can figure out SC (Skychief) but am baffled by CB and SMB, sometime words work better.

I went out and tried it yesterday in my 28. Mine has a 44" B weight swamped barrel. I was shooting at 28 yards at turkey head targets. I tried #8, #6 and #4 shot, 60-80 grains of 2f goex. I settled on 70 grains of 2f and 90 grains=1 1/4 ounce of #6 shot. After I settled on the load I shot 4 targets and consistently got at least 7 or 8+ killing shots on each target at 28 yards. I moved up to 20 on one target and just hammered it. Crazy what a little less distance is worth in these cylinder bores.

martin9 - shotgun patterns are usually shaped more similarly to a trumpet's horn than they are gradual - they get exponentially larger with distance.
The more shot that is damaged by the bore, scrubbing along, the worse they get. This is why some guys used paper or plastic shot protectors.
Just be aware, plastic shot cups need a buffer material between them and the powder's flames.

I didn't use shot cups...I used the Sky Chief load recipe.

Oh, I see what you meant about the shot cups. I'm well versed in shotgun physics and patterning. I'm very pleased with my patterns with the sky chief load in the 28 and will be toting it opening day.

I used 65 grains of 2F and an ounce of shot in my 28.  Patterns were good, much better than my wing shooting ability.  Had a ball hunting quail and doves but was not much of a threat to the population.  It did take out a rattler that I stepped on one cold morning while hunting.  Pulse rate was the only thing faster than that shot.

Thanks Skychief! gonna have to head down south aways this year. Not many turkeys on my property the past few years. Saw a flock of 6 hens a few times during deer season...hope they'll start building back up in the next couple years.
