Southern Mountain Squirrel Rifle
« on: March 18, 2022, 11:33:37 PM »
I got this TN rifle today, and I'm pleased, it's a dandy.  Very light, it's a .32 caliber with a 38" swamped barrel.  It's about 7 lbs I'd say. A lot of drop.  Wooden rib, small thimbles.    Holston cheek rest. The nose cap strongly attracts a magnet, even though it looks pewter.  Thin buttplate, riveted. The curved, non-squared bottom triggerguard with the open ring looks like a Johnathan Gross I looked at.  Or a S. Glover, or several others in TN.

I think I used to own that rifle. Very nice trigger guard and triggers!

It's a small world, and very cool.  It came out of an estate in NC.

Of the old rifles I've acquired, this is one I feel I could shoot.

That is a neat little rifle.  Love those iron trigger guards.  I can imagine a lot of squirrels lost their grip on a hickory branch from that rifle.  Thanks for sharing.

Thanks all, I like it too.  It is light and handy, would be easy to carry in the woods, compared to some others (top):

Would that be considered a three-quarter stock?

I'm thinking it was originally a full stock.  It was later cut down.
