So today I'm working in my shop, shaping the sides of a forsetock on a fowler I'm building. Was using my little Stanley smoothing plane and it is taking off beautiful thin curls of sugar maple. Got one side done the started on the other side "that side has a few small inclusions" everything working fine then about little over 1/2 done the plane hesitated for a split second & I thought I heard a metallic "ting" and then the plane turned into a molding plane! It was leaving a high spot right in the middle of the blade! I looked at the blade and sure enough the was a semi circle chip in the middle of the blade!
I looked at the stock and found a small round hole in the wood about a 1/32" deep but what ever it was, popped out on the shop floor somewhere! it had to be right in the middle of a small inclusion!
I dread the thought of grinding that blade back and resharpening it!
