Volley Gun touch hole
« on: March 28, 2022, 08:22:47 PM »
Anybody have any experience drilling a touch hole on a volley gun? I'm down to that now and it looks to be a bit of a challenge. There is nothing on the print about it. No mention of a size of course. Looks like it's going to have to go at an angle.

No idea how Nock made his Volley Gun's ignition system?
Google was of no use, stating that it could fire all at once, or singly, which was not possible, I think.  Seems to me, the gun had one lock
as-in this one.

Hi,
Yes, it has to be drilled at an angle to reach the center barrel powder chamber.  I assume you have all the holes drilled from the central powder chamber to each outer barrel?  On the originals, those were drilled from the outside of each barrel all the way through each barrel and into the center powder chamber.  Then the outside holes were threaded and plugged.  Based on my very old notes from Kit Ravenshear, the vent hole should be at least 1/16" but 3/32" would not be too large and perhaps more reliable because the length of the hole.

It is the Nock from the Rifle Shoppe. All the holes are drilled in the barrels and the only thing left is to drill the touch hole. The length of the hole will be about 3/4" through the breech block. I talked to the guy at the Rifle Shoppe and he mentioned using a vent liner. I don't see how that would work as the hole will be drilled at about a 25 degree angle. I believe I'll split the difference and try a 5/64" hole. I can always enlarge it if need be.

Just curiously, the touch hole is 3/4” deep? How would that work?
