Squirrel Rifle Bench Match
« on: April 02, 2022, 03:44:38 AM »
Anyone know what's required to shoot the Friendship Squirrel Rifle Bench matches? I know it's 40 cal or smaller and that's about it.  Can a globe with post front sight be used? Would a Lyman GPR style rifle be OK? Can you shoot off bags and use cant blocks, levels etc. or is it more primitive style.
I can't find any of that on the NMLRA website.

Max cal. is 40, open sights, max weight 10 pounds. In the spirit of the match I dont think cant blocks would be allowed. One 6 bull target off bench at 50 yds, one 6 bull target at 25 yds off hand and one target at 50 yds off hand

That's hardly a "bench" match if two of the three targets are shot offhand. Guess I misunderstood. Thanks for the response smylee grouch.

Interesting match. I am thinking (musing) about a postal match in similar fashion? 8)

You might be right if they have another match just for shooting squirrel rifles ( 40 cal or under off the bench. The matches I was talking about are just called the Squirrel Gun Agg. Sorry for any confusion.

Hello,
The Agg talked about earlier was Winter/Western National Agg. Friendship Fall is one match, open sight 10 lb weigh limit.
I don’t know about anti cant bars, but will find out next week.

Thanks everyone - but I'm still confused. So there might be a Squirrel Rifle match at the Nationals with all 3 targets shot from the bench? If so, I'd think that standard NMLRA rules would apply but frankly I find those kind of confusing also.

There is only one target for the squirrel gun match at Friendship Fall National.

One target only? From the bench? At what range and how many shots. What target is it? Thanks

If you do the postal match as a squirrel shoot here is a suggested target. Unfortunately you would have download this photo from this site. this is one of my squirrel soft steel targets I had plasma cut for my B.P. squirrel rifles.

That is similar to the steel squirrel targets the Lone Wolf Society brings up the Hefley for their squirrel rifle shoot, Mike.
They are placed in the bush (you have to spot them before you can shoot them) 7 they are at ranges from about 18 yards, out to 75yards or so.
The tails on theirs are larger and out behind the squirrel more, but do not register a hit as they are soft material of some sort, not steel.

So this Squirrel target is just that, a (one ) target whereas the three target combination is considered an aggregate.

Hi everyone,
The Friendship squirrel match, one 6 bull, 50 yds bench. 45 minute relay. One match.
FYI, three or four matches make up an Aggregate.
There was a Squirrel gun Aggregate at the Western/Winter National and it was three targets, two off hand and one bench, that shoot is gone. BTW, it was fun and I shot it many times, even managed to win some medals.. never the Agg.
If anyone has questions about the Friendship shooting program, simply sent me a private email and I will sent back my phone number and will be happy to explain the matches and rules. My phone can also be found on the NMLRA website
Under Fields Rep and Territorial Coordinator.
You can also call the NMLRA office and they will give you my number. Sorry not posting an number here.
But I am willing to help everyone.
Michael

Thanks for that clarification Michael. FYI you can still shoot that squirrel rifle Agg. at the same range in AZ where the NMLRA Western Shoot was held. The big difference now is you don't have to be an NMLRA member and its much much cheaper to shoot now. Best wishes.  :) Flintlocks Forever

Thanks Michael. So one target at 50 yards. I'm guessing 5 shots total. That clears it up for me.
