please help id this rifle

i drive for UPS and on my route years ago was an old timer i would talk with about black powder often as the first time i stopped he had a flintlock on his porch. the guy was a wealth of knowledge and i started to visit him on my days off occasional to talk flintlocks and hear his old war stories. he had a LOT of old flinters. have not talked to him in a year or 2 got a call from his son yesterday that he is not doing well and going in a nursing home.  he wanted me to know they will be taking all his guns to auction BUT his father had left explicit instructions to call me and offer a flintlock that i really liked for me to buy! nothing else for sale all going to auction.  i had admired this rifle because of the inlays and patch box but the gentleman has no clue who the maker is he got it from his father who said at the time it is well over 200 years old.  these are the pics he sent i will go buy it and take more but any help right now would be greatly appreciated!

Looks New York to me. Late flint period. 1820-ish. My best guesses.

Nice looking rifle.  I liked how you were able to share an interest with the gentleman.

 Have you taken the barrel out and looked for proof marks or markings on the underside? Are there any markings anywhere on the rifle? Close ups photos of the lock, lock interior, barrel breeching, and any engraving and other parts will help.

Looks New York to me. Late flint period. 1820-ish. My best guesses.

Not my field of gun collecting, but I agree with Rich.  Attributes are similar to those of John Caswell of New York State, but several others like Orestes Badger used a similar patchbox. You are getting a fine gun and we are eager for your further images. especially of stampings
